Based 20 miles south of Boston, Cohasset’s, The Good Sport, Inc. has weathered Big Box Stores, online retailers, COVID-19, and supply chain chaos in its 40-year existence because of its dedication to local communities and their returned support.
The store is often the first stop panicked parents make when their young player’s cleats are two sizes too small on the first day of soccer. Adult customers stop by to pick up Pickleball supplies, have a tennis racket to be restrung, or wish to replace a tired pair of OOFOS.
“We have a sterling reputation for offering a quality product, at a reasonable price, and proper fit,” states owner Austin Lyne. “Should something go wrong, we are always there to back you up.”
In 2012, Austin stopped newspaper advertising and switched his messaging to online communications, including a website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, targeted emails, and blog posts.
Since then, he has worked with Doug Eymer to deliver upbeat messaging that reminds customers of upcoming youth sports seasons, new product releases, or introductions to growing sports such as Pickleball.
“We know our promotions are working as we hear constant chuckles and comments from our extremely supportive customers,” says Austin. “Times are challenging, but our online presence has done an incredible job relaying our message and delivering the customers for which a small business such as ours depends.”
