David's Amazing Collection of Apollo 11 Press Kits

March 14, 2019

As a practicing graphic designer, an avid fan of design history and connoisseur of retro art, I found great pleasure perusing through the Apollo 11 Press Kit Collection. Above are a few of my favorites.

During my professional career, I have had the opportunity to meet an incredible group of people from all walks of life. Some, I have worked with on a single project or campaign. Then there are some, like speaker and author David Meerman Scott, where we have worked on a whole collection of projects over a 20+ year span.

Obviously, over time, conversations drift from all-business to personal topics. We learn about spouses, children, pets, favorite automobiles, and hobbies. I've known of David's passion for surfing, Grateful Dead concerts, and NASA memorabilia but just recently, I was introduced to his incredible collection of Apollo 11 Press Kits.

This morning in celebration of 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, Apollo Press Kits was launched. Here is a description of what may be found on this website:

"Press kits prepared by the public relations staff at the primary contractors for the Apollo 11 mission provided valuable additional information not found in NASA issued news releases. Reporters and editors from media outlets including television and newspapers had access to such documents from dozens of manufacturers while working on stories about the first lunar landing."

Following 15 years of collecting, David Meerman Scott's collection, probably the world's most complete, has been digitized and is available for anyone to enjoy. If you feel like taking a trip back in time, Apollo Press Kits will not disappoint. – Doug.
