Lawson Lindsey: fisherman, videographer and one-man brand

Our two sons, Foster (23) and Taggart (20) have become avid saltwater fishermen. During these summer months, when they are not trolling for stripers offshore south of Boston, they can often be found watching fishing videos on the YouTube channels of their favorite on-screen fishing personalities.

One of these folks, Lawson Lindsey of Jupiter, Florida, recently came for a 3-day visit. Through social media postings and follow-up commentary, Foster and Lawson exchanged messages regarding fishing techniques, lures, gear, etc. Following Foster and Taggart's postings of some recently caught Striped Bass, Lawson accepted an invitation to visit our New England waters in hopes of landing at least one "donkey" Striper.

Lawson, now in his early to mid-twenties, has accumulated over 63,000 YouTube subscribers, with his most popular videos chalking up somewhere between 250,000 and 450,000 times. Each video "hit" generates a little more revenue towards his steadily growing self-generated income.

Lawson Lindsey, the company, is an entrepreneurial one-man brand. With a video camera (usually strapped to his chest) and a drone, he simultaneously fishes, films and narrates, often while reeling in an uncooperative Lunker. Back on shore, Lawson becomes his editor, producer, and promoter.

Before leaving this week for a fishing trip to Columbia (yes, the country), Lawson posted the first of the 2-part series with Foster and Taggart and will post the second later today.

Our family witnessed first-hand how a focussed hardworking entrepreneur could both build and sustain a successful one-man brand–while following his passion! – Doug.
