Goatscaping at the Think Tank
In the spring of 2017, EYMER BRAND Laboratories + Think Tank relocated for our waterfront headquarters in Cohasset, Massachusetts to a woodsy location in the adjacent town of Scituate.
When purchased, the house and free-standing EYMER corporate headquarters were surrounded by snow, which conveniently hid the abundant undergrowth and weed haven. The densely concentrated tree life was another story! At least seven behemoth trees, all severe safety concerns had to be removed before they toppled over on person, structure or unsuspecting pet. Once the Lumberjacks completed this laborious task and departed, the next challenge involved weed removal, and more specifically that three leaf menace, poison ivy.
It was our arborist, Andrew Spalt of Total Tree who first mentioned "goatscaping." We laughed. Then after reviewing several yard reclamation options including weed-pulling by hand, chemicals, and a controlled burn, we reinvestigated the goat option.
This morning, The Goat Guys from the nearby town of Hanover arrived with a herd of seven hungry goats, a small A-frame shelter, a portable solar-powered electric fence and a bail of hay. Leashed and lead from their trailer to their newly fenced in grazing area, once they entered the gate, they immediately began to munch, munch, and munch!
The Magnificent Seven will continue to eat for the next seven days before they are picked up and transported to a new challenge.
There was a brief adjustment period for the company's canine mascot Olivetti, but upon realizing that these were only summer interns, she has adopted a more professional stance.
