USPS: Snail Mail Sneak Peak

Except for Sunday, each morning at approximately 7:30 AM, I received an email from the United States Postal Service. Within this electronic correspondence, I can view black-and-white scanned images of the letter-size mail to be delivered that day.

The United States Postal Service refers to this free service as Informed Delivery® and describes it in the following manner:

"Digitally preview your mail and manage your packages scheduled to arrive soon! Informed Delivery allows you to view greyscale images of the exterior, address side of letter-sized mailpieces and track packages in one convenient location.*

*Images are only provided for letter-sized mailpie ces that a re processed through USPS' automated equipment."

The images above show the message that I received in my email viewer window and the resulting email. I know that on this day I will receive a letter from my sister Martha, our friend Lisa, and a direct mail piece from Custom Ink.

Despite the fact that my close friend Doug, who is a cybersecurity expert is concerned about the government's ability to track my snail mail correspondence, I am willing to give up this form of privacy to make sure that the CHECK REALLY IS IN THE MAIL!

To sign up for this service, go to the United States Postal Service website, and click on "tools."  After the menu opens, click on "Informed Delivery." – Doug.
